Dieting and exercise for me, is the same as, I believe it is for most people.
For a good portion of my life – I’ve been the type of person that had a hard time eating; so much so, that I decided that I could be proud of myself for just doing that – eating. I had to abandon the ‘what’ because the thought would overwhelm me, I’d decided it wasn’t worth the angst and not eat.
I’m still proud of myself for eating. That said, I’ve come to a point where now that I am eating regularly; I return to focus on my diet. A common sense suggestion was to have lots and lots a veggies and a little bit of meat. Sometimes a bit of grain or starch. I gave it a try for a bit last year and fell off rather quickly. When I saw the advertisement for Lumen, a device that measures your metabolism; I thought that this would help a bit.
When it comes to exercise; I just learned that I have a faster heart rate than most people. I have to be a bit more careful about how I exercise which is as good of an excuse not too as any, but – knowing that I cannot merely burn calories with exercising, a good diet is a must have for me. Assuming that I don’t want to replace the eating habit with smoking, what worked in the past.
Onto what it is I like about the Lumen. I starting using the device around Christmas.
This device is helping me understand WHY I’m eating what I’m eating; as opposed to forcing me into a diet. Every morning I wake up, measure my metabolism and find out if I’m burning fat or carbs. The goal is to wake up in a state of fat burn then eat and burn carbs throughout the day. I can use the device to see the impact exercise and eating has on my metabolic state and this interests me. The app. includes advice as to how many macros I should be consuming everyday. It doesn’t force me into them, just suggests it. When I log my meals, I can get an idea as to how many I’m intaking.
I eat way more carbs than I had thought. I’m also learning that, for the most part, I’m more likely to wake up burning fat when I stop eating before 6 PM.
I’ve been pairing the Lumen device for my diet with the Fitbit for exercise. I think I’m on the right track.
It’s just the beginning of the year; we’ll see how this pans out and if it does really help me maintain a decent regimen.
So far, I can say it’s helpful.
